The Martinsburg Police Department is pleased to announce
that we have partnered with Project ChildSafe to distribute Firearm Safety Kits
to local residents. These safety kits are free of charge and include a safety
curriculum and a cable-style gun lock. The lock fits on most types of handguns,
rifles and shotguns. Project ChildSafe is a nationwide firearms safety
education program developed by the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF)
and has distributed more than 35 million firearms safety kits throughout the
country since 2003. The program is supported by the U.S. Department of Justice
and the firearms industry. We encourage local residents to pick up a Project
ChildSafe safety kit to securely store your firearms. The goal is to prevent a
child or any other unauthorized person from accessing a firearm in your home.
You can pick up your free safety kit at the Martinsburg
Police Department.
By partnering with Project ChildSafe, we are participating
in a national effort to promote firearms safety education to all gun owners.
